A luxury hotel fly fishing experience was what she was looking for to treat her husband. It had been long hard few months on the farm. They had in fact just finished weeks of crutching – backbreaking and no-so-pleasant work.

 

It was to be a secret from the start. Communication was through texts to her mobile. How to disguise credit card payments?

She was not sure if she would go with him, or let him have the day to himself, but that could be ironed out later. So we got shoe sizes for their waders, and dietary requirements for their fishers lunch, both of them. Most importantly, we booked it in with the guide.

 

We use a fabulous cohort of fly fishing guides for our guests. Highly experienced, passionate, and quite obsessed as so many fly fishers are, they live and breath their craft. They will know where the trout are rising for the best chance of a hit for our guests. And they have the expertise to tailor the day to suit the abilities and preferences of the guest.

 

When our guests arrived at The Woodbridge, staff were clued up, “Say nothing in front of him!”  We serrupticiously got ‘the plans’ to her: “Your guide will be Ross. He will pick you up after breakfast here at The Pavilion. All wet weather clothing and waders are provided.”

 

Staff serving dinner were clued up. “Don’t ask what they are planning for tomorrow.” A fabulous duck dinner over looking the river came and went – so far so good.

 

At breakfast it was obvious that she had already spilled the beans and he knew that he was going flyfihing. Staff could relax.

Ross the guide arrived – their luxury hotel fly fishing experience had begun.

 

…. and yes, she was definitely going!

 

Our guests report that they had a wonderful time. The wet weather had not phased them, and in fact the great outdoors had invigorated them, he said. Ross the guide was fabulous. They were chuffed to have caught several trout.
