Tasmanian single malt whisky production is booming. Tassie’s climate is ideal for the grain production requires, and its pristine waters are perfect.
Lawrenny Estate was perfectly positioned to become a leading new world distillery. The 400 acre riverfront property grows its own production barley, and draws its water straight from the river. It is one of only a few ‘paddock to bottle’ single malt whiskies in the world.
7 years in the planning and execution, Lawrenny’s ‘Homestead’ Tasmanian Single Malt Whisky has finally been released. And like so many of their creations, it is an award winner, winning GOLD at the World Whisky Masters.
The description reads “A delicate union of American Oak and French Oak layered over our spirit’s bounty of tropical fruit notes. Homestead is a triple cask release. Maturation has occurred across a combination of ex bourbon, port and sherry barrels combining to deliver a unique single malt whisky.
Homestead invites you in with a nose reminiscent of fresh rain and blooming florals. The palate is structured and nuanced as white peaches give way to banoffee and candied ginger. Smoked almonds drizzled in golden syrup complete the long, smooth finish.”
Lawrenny is a an easy 30-40 minute drive from the Woodbridge. Perfect for an afternoon excursion. Therefore we encourage guests to visit, not only for tastings of premium Tasmania spirits but also for Lawrenny’s idylic setting, and historic homestead and barns
Naturally, we stock Lawrenny spirits in our bar in the Pavilion overlooking the river. Lawrenny was not idle while waited for their first whisky barrels to age in the historic barns store. They turned their hand distilling other premium spirits. Always one to innovate, in 2023 Lawrenny started producing a guest favourite. Guests love the convenience of single serve cans of several varieties of quality gin and tonic, vodka and soda. Perfect for our honour bar, for guests to take to their room, or into the esky in their car for a lunch time picnic.
