Luxury Hobart Christmas Getaway – Borders opening

A Luxury Hobart Christmas Getaway is now possible. Tasmania announced today that borders will be open to both intrastate and international visitors by 15 December 2021.

Premier Peter Gutwein has revealed his government’s plan to open up to the world just in time for Christmas.

Here’s what we know.

When can I visit Tasmania?

The government expects 80 per cent of Tasmanians aged 16 and older to be fully vaccinated by early November.

When the state hits that target, people in Australian jurisdictions declared high risk will be able to enter the state. But they will have to complete 14 days of home or hotel quarantine.

It is expected most Tasmanians returning from abroad will be able to quarantine at home. This will depend largely on where they have travelled from. It will also depend on them being fully vaccinated and return a negative test 72 hours before entering Tasmania.

Returning travellers from overseas will be required to undertake 14 days of hotel quarantine, with home quarantine to be trialled based on risk.

It is expected that by 15 December 2021, 90% of Tasmania’s population will be vaccinated. So on 15 December, Tasmanian borders will open to all travellers fulfilling specified travel criteria. They will not have to quarantine as long as they have:

– tested negative within 72 hours of arriving in Tasmania

– are fully vaccinated

This protocol will stay in place for 4 weeks, and will then be reassessed.
