Tasmania’s wedding industry has seen an influx of happy couples choosing Tassie to get married. They are coming from interstate and overseas.

Over the years The Woodbridge has welcomed small wedding groups from various parts of Europe. European weddings tend to be smaller, simpler affairs than the Australian counterpart has been. But that is changing.

As the 2024-25 wedding season draws to a close, there has been a marked increase in the number of enquiries for the 2025-26-27 seasons. Interestingly, so many of these are for destination micro-weddings and elopements. It seems that this is obviously a growing trend.

But whatever the size of the guest list, there is no doubt many couples are choosing a destination wedding in Tasmania. While their marriage is the primary focus, they are making the most of this time with family and friends.

Our couples are finding that combining the ceremony and accommodation onsite at The Woodbridge works wonderfully well.

High demand for venues.

Hobart marriage celebrant Tim Grimsey said that about a third of his are from interstate or international. Similarly celebrant Bek Burrows noted that her clientele is 95% interstate or international.

“Demand for venues is high, and you need to book 12-18 months in advance,” Tim added.

It is the appeal of Tasmania’s wilderness and pristine image that draws couples from far and wide. Additionally the growing food and beverage reputation is triggering a new wave of destination weddings in Tasmania.

Many of our couples have chosen to combine the two. Think riverside ceremony and cocktails at The Woodbridge followed by reception at The Agrarian Kitchen. It doesn’t get much better than that.

And at the end of the day, it is such an easy walk, or drive home to The Woodbridge!
