Best Tasmanian Tourism Attractions, what are they? where are they?

Best Tasmanian tourism attractions are listed in Tourism Tasmania’s training modules for travel agents wishing to become Tasmanian Specialists. All but two of the ten most visited attractions listed are within easy access of The Woodbridge.

Explore Southern Tasmania

The Woodbridge is the perfect base for exploring all of Southern Tasmania. On our website we attempt to list many of guests’ sightseeing and activity options, but frankly, there are so many!

Of the ten attractions listed by Tourism Tasmania:

  • five are 30 minutes or less drive from The Woodbridge
  • one just a little further, 40 minutes drive
  • and two are great for a day trip

What’s close by?

The six ‘Tasmanian Best” attractions close to the Woodbridge are:

  • #1 on their list is Salamanca Market. Most of our international and mainland weekend guests spend their Saturday morning at the Salamanca Markets. It is an Tassie institution. Plenty of luncheon options and we are happy to chat through these with you.
  • #2  is Museum of Old and New Art is just 15-20 minute drive, so close that our guests often pop into MONA several times. It is internationally renowned, constantly changing, always challenging. Luncheon options onsite including acclaimed first class restaurant.
  • #3 is Mt Wellington, now addressed by its indigenous name kunanyi. You drive to the base of kunanyi and then drive up the road to the top. It is a winding road, but quite easy, with some spectacular sights such as the organ pipes along the way. There is no eatery atop, but we can suggest options in the area.
  • #8 On Tourism Tas list is Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens, and easy 25 minute drive straight along the river from the Woodbridge. The garden are spectacularly situated overlooking the river and the beautiful Tasmanian Government House is adjacent to the gardens. But we can also direct you to Tasmania’s earliest ‘botanical gardens’ just 5 minutes from The Woodbridge.
  • #10 is Tasmania’s Museum and Art Gallery, a must if you are to get a picture of Tassie’s indigenous and early colonial history.

Take a Day Trip

Three of the remaining five attractions on the list are favourites with our guests for day trips:

  • #4 Port Arthur and #9 Tasman Arch & Blow Hole can be don in the one day trip. But there is so much much more that you can pack into your day. We will be happy to help you plan that when you arrive. Last minute planning is best to accommodate Tasie’s mercurial weather.
  • #7 Freycinet National Park can be done as a loop trip, going one way, heading back another. We can help you plan this to accommodate your sightseeing preferences. We will also discuss with you the pros and cons of walking right down to the beach.

But we promise you, that is just the tip of what you can see when using the Woodbridge as you base. Can’t believe Mt Field National Park and the iconic Russell Falls did not make the list!!! What were those surveyed thinking to miss this!
