What is the best restaurant in Tasmania?

 

The Agrarian Kitchen has been named Australia’s Best Restaurant by Gourmet Traveller. It follows that this is the best restaurant in Tasmanian, right?

 

And it is a 10 minute walk from The Woodbridge.

 

On their Facebook page today, Rodney and Severine spoke of their gratitude for this honour. They said, “The magnitude of this recognition is only beginning to sink in.” Messages of kind words remind them of why they do what they do. “It’s clear that our incredible community of supporters plays vital role in our journey.”

 

The Woodbridge has been part of that journey since day1. Rodney and Severine stayed at the Woodbridge when they first came to Tassie looking for the ideal location. We remember saying that they need not look far because here was the amazing Derwent Valley produce.

 

We like to think that we convinced them to stay right here in the Valley.

 

Boy, did we we get it right that time … big slap on the back!

 

So, it stands to reason that we were amongst the very first guests at The Agrarian Kitchen Eatery. We booked in for the very first public dinner, and the image above was our meal!

The Eatery is a just 4 blocks from The Woodbridge, and a favourite activity staying with us. Guests often walk there, so they don’t have to drive home after drinking. As the walk home is all downhill, we joke that they can just ‘roll home’!

 

We recently lunched at the Agrarian Kitchen.

 

The AKE serves lunch Friday Saturday and Sunday only. Guests are asked to allow 3 hours, and the luncheon experience starts with a drink and nibbles in the garden. Guests then wander through the garden which will supply many of the ingredients used in their lunch. The AKE is a true garden to plate experience and the menu chances daily to best utilise the daily harvest.

Several small local producers also supply the kitchens – no carbon miles here.

 

Reservations are essential, and open 4 months in advance. Get in now, because that timeline is sure to blow out now that the AKE has been named Australian Restaurant of the Year.
