We welcome you to our boutique Waterfront Rooms Tasmania. After 20 years, The Woodbridge is changing.

In August 2024, we embarked on a two year plan to modify The Woodbridge’s operational model.

The first stage of this plan is the introduction of its Waterfront Rooms concept. Stage 1 transitions the property  from a five star luxury hotel to Rooms Only accommodation.

We purchased the derelict Woodbridge in 2003 and then restored it 2004-2007. We then reimagined it as a boutique hotel. It operated as Tasmania’s first and only member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World 2007-2018.

Over time travel patterns evolve and guest preferences change. Consequently we adapted The Woodbridge to meet the new demands. Gradually it progressed to the more relaxed operating model of our Waterfront Rooms.

Still small, still private and still with those amazing views.

So much is unchanged about The Woodbridge. It remains family owned and operated, remains small, private and personal. And the river views from every room continue to delight guests.

The major change is that we have moved away from the full service model of a 5 star hotel. The Woodbridge had operated on a 5 star model since 2007 – it was time for a change.

The operational transition.

Our evolving operational model is in response to the June 2026 completion of the new bridge at Bridgewater. The new bridge opens New Norfolk to the river traffic again. Historically, the river has always been central to commerce and leisure water pursuits in the valley.

Stage 2 plan expands the use of the Pavilion. Historically the Pavilion was the hub of operations. It included the Reception, the Bar, the Kitchen and serviced dining. It was used by in-house guests only. With the decline of these needs, the Pavilion will be repurposed under the new operating model. It will assume new roles, complementing the Waterfront Rooms of course, but also optimising the anticipated riverfront traffic.
